I can see registering for life if you have committed a violent rape or violent assault of some form, but if you are a low risk and it shows that in the database, WHY should you register for the rest of your life? That just shows that the govt has taken control of your life and your family life for the rest of your life. mother of a SO. My son was accused and took probation in 1998. It was he said/she said. Both 17. Because of the trauma, he was terrified and took the deal. Eight years! He sat weekly in classes with grown men who molested/raped children as young as 5 yrs old.
His judge was wonderful in the fact the school backed him and the judge required him to write him every month for the entire 8 years. He finished probation! The judge wanted his college education to begin and finish. He finished 3 yrs. He has been fired from every job! He still at 28 lives with us because he cannot rent an apt. He gets discouraged with a life time registration. He paid for the eight years - there is redemption for prisoners who murder! Bank robbers - but should not be a life sentence such as this.
In the committee on sex offenses in Austin - the committee states "if we relax the guidelines/laws on this registration, we lose hundreds of thousands of dollars the federal government pays to mandate this registration". It is ABOUT money!

Both the "victim" AND her mother told him she was 18 (though she was 15) and I have since found out that she accused a total of four (4) boys of sexual "crimes". She & her mother successfully convinced the state that she was, indeed, a "victim" and at one time mom / daughter were receiving not 1, not 2...but 3 checks each month from this state, according to information I discovered. (The other boy was a juvenile and you can bet they received cash from that family.) Please...can someone tell me who the "victim" is in this case?
For many victims and their families, screaming rape while accepting a handout from this state has become a financial way-of-life. Oh my Gosh. That very same description fits several who, from time-to-time, make the trek to Austin and write our laws. How very sad.

She had him along with our whole family and friends fooled. Stating that she was graduating from high school and their plans to get engaged, get their own place, go to college... Now, 2 years later....my 20yr old son that has to register as an offender still cannot find a job.. He is NOT a threat to any child. And now his whole life is messed up behind a young "woman" who wanted to play grown up.. and lied about her age to date my then 18 yr old son. I am also very angry with this young "woman's" MOTHER... Who "ALLOWED" her daughter to date and stay out all hours of the night... and there were NO Consequences to the girl for lying on filmed police video tape "5" different times and on the police report s about her age.. and admitted that she did LIE to my son about her age. This law needs to be adjusted to each individual case per case basis.

My nephew is in prison now for 19 yrs. He was seduced by a 37 yr old woman with a 13 yr old daughter. He was 18yrs old. 3 months before this woman asked him to her house. during a night of "Partying" he messed around with her daughter, did not have sex, When the mom found out he had more feelings for the daughter she filed molestation charges on him. He turned himself in, and commented to a confession, in opposition to what he was told he would get if he went to trial. He was a 18 yr old kid, he made a small mistake.... he looks at getting out of prison when he is 35 yrs old.

Wife of RSO. --deferred adjudication--He will complete probation in April but due to the new laws will have to register the rest of his life. When he was first sentenced with deferred adjudication it meant at the end of his probation he had served his sentence and the file would be closed. Shouldn't it be that once you have successfully completed your probation you were done? What incentive is there for someone to follow the guidelines of their probation if they know they will still have to register the rest of their life.

RSO whose so call "victim" was my girlfriend for a year and half. Our families were great friends who grew up together, went on vacations together, and so on. Mother took the "victim" to the investigator in which she refused to talk to him. The mother threatened her until she would talk. She took her again the next week and confessed to our sexual relationship. A day later I get a call to talk to the investigator in which I refused to cooperate so a warrant was out for my arrest. It's pretty much been hell ever since. Counseling groups with rapists and child molesters, polygraph tests, random check ups by PO, and to top if off life time registration. I'm 23 and still live at home with my parents and cannot hold a decent job. My family and I have suffered tremendously and it does not ever seem to stop hurting. If there is anything I can do to help fight this I'm aboard.

Wife of a loving husband who is now serving a six year sentence for an allegation (sex) that could not be proven. It was puzzling to me how the jurors rendered a guilty verdict after coming out twice stating that they did not have sufficient evidence to give a conviction. What confused me more was that the judge kept sending them back to come up with an unanimous verdict. Everything about this case was what someone said or believed. We need some help. Just thinking about him being a RSO about something they could not prove makes my blood boil. Something needs to change. Please, let's do something about this nonsense.

I am a clinical psychologist, licensed by the state of Texas. I also was on the faculty of the University of Texas Medical Branch for about 40 years before I retired as a clinical professor on Sept. 1, 2009. There are many ways, professionally and privately, that I have been touched by unreasonable laws, definitions, classifications, and requirements of "sex offenders". I have watched lives being ruined needlessly and senselessly where the only human hurt by the "crime" seemed to be the person considered the "perpetrator" and those who love him (I have only known males in these cases, but I am sure there are some females in similar situations). I have tried to ignore the situation, remain uninvolved, and pretend I have no responsibility, but I keep being reminded by new situations of the tragedies resulting from the failure in our legal system to differentiate violent and dangerous predators from the individuals whose offenses were far more innocent. Obviously, a power greater than I knows that my background makes me one of the people who should be out in front, yelling loudly and intelligently about the stupidity of the laws and requirements.

I'm a normal person who watched a sex offender's child get stoned in his front yard. His father was a low risk registered sex offender. His 6yr old son is an innocent person who didn't do the crime. These laws need to be changed fast. Neither the sex offender or his family should have to have this public. His conviction of the crime should have been his punishment. Lets stop this stupid registry crap---it does more harm than good. It causes the avg. person to commit foolish crimes, such as the one above. It was probably a pissed off mother who hurt that child. This makes me sick.

When I had just turned 19 years old, I got in trouble with an underage girl. The girl told her parents she lied to me about her age and the parents dropped the charges and the state picked them up. I had also commited a stupid vandalism charge on some property a month before when I was 18 with some friends where we kicked out spotlights shining on a model home and given an organized crime felony which they went ahead and ran concurrent with the sex charge I caught a month later behind the girl who was 4 years younger then me. I messed up probation with a DWI in 2000 and took 4 years in prison. The DWI took my risk level from level 1 minor risk level to Level 2 moderate risk level. I got out in 2003 and have not been in any trouble since and have held my job for 6 years with the same company. I have to register for just under 4 more years. It being 2009 now, my risk level has never been lowered back down to minimum 9 years later, and my life has literally been ruined by the fact I am registered sex offender. I am 30 years old now. Kids who get off the bus run yelling "Run its the guy!!!" and my neighbor one of only 2 I talk to tells me of people who have yelled that they are living across the street from a child molestor. I had to buy a doublewide because getting an apartment was an impossibility. When the law came for employers to be put on the website I was suspended with pay for over a month while they decided whether to keep me on or not at the home office after I had already been working for them for over 5 years. I'm like a hermit now afraid to talk to people or look at anyone in my neighborhood. I'm basically a prisoner in my home. I only mow my lawn on Mondays when everyone is at school or work. I have been a sex offender for 11 years now, that's almost half my life, behind just an underage girl. This same girl got pregnant 6 months later by another guy and the parents made her marry or they were gonna do the same thing to him as was done to me. People do not differentiate people on the sex offender database. My charge is the same as a sexual predator or preys on 6 year old children in the eyes of society because the sex offender website groups everyone together and makes it look that way. I have contemplated suicide many times in my life because of how low the ridicule and humiliation has brought me. Me and this girl were exactly 4 years and 36 days apart. I hope that you can find it in your hearts to differentiate, because society cannot, and the media helps fuel the fire by making everyone on the database look the same under the label of "sex offender". I am the father of one of those young men who had a photo of his girlfriend bare from the the waist up. It was LEGAL to have sex with her, but NOT LEGAL to have a photograph of her nude breasts.
SOMETHING is wrong with that law: SHE'S AN ADULT FOR SEX, BUT TOO MUCH OF A CHILD FOR A PHOTOGRAPH???
The law makes NO SENSE! Change it to something that makes sense! I submit the premise that if the girl is OLD ENOUGH to HAVE SEX then she is also OLD ENOUGH to choose to allow her boyfriend to photograph her nude body! There was no force and no crime involved EXCEPT in the WRITTEN LETTER of an UNJUST LAW! It is an example of the unintended consequences of laws that were made to "protect children" and it is wrong!

I feel that the laws need to be changed and feel that the young girls and the parents of the girls should also have to answer for the so called crimes comitted by these young men. And he is constantly having to pay for polygraphs (200.00 each) over the sexual offense, that was dismissed with no evidence, but because he is unable to pass , he got revocation and 2 yrs TDC, which we do not have money to fight. I am also unable to see my 3 grandsons, and stepgrandchildren.
